Limkokwing University’s Faculty of Architecture and the Built Environment (FABE) students brought home six awards from the Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia's (PAM) TIANGSERI - 26th Annual Architecture Student Workshop. The workshop was held at University Teknologi Mara (UiTM) in Perak from 29 Oct - 2 Nov 2014.

The PAM’s TIANGSERI Architecture Student Workshop is an annual architectural event which was first organised by the architecture students committee from different universities in Malaysia in 1987. The workshop aims at providing a learning and interactive platform where students can express their creativity. It attracts students from universities across the country and offers various competitions for students to participate in.

Over 30 Limkokwing University students participated in the competitions in this year’s workshop.

“Limkokwing students in all faculties are winners in any of the competitions we enter because the way we are taught engages us,” said one of the students, Ozair Wazir from Zimbabwe.

Ozair Wazir and his group mates Lobna Hassan, Omar Haroun and Leon Kioko received a ‘Best participants Award’ for their exceptional interaction and communication skills throughout the workshop.

Khairul Azim was awarded the ‘Best Jury Award’ for serving justly as the competition jury. He again received the ‘Best Architecture Installation Award’ with Lim Jing Yang, Lee Chang Whan and Tan Wee Ken for the ‘Mini Installation’ category. In this category, participants were required to present an interpretation of TIANGSERI through manipulation of existing steel frames that connects to a column. The group created a phoenix structure to showcase recurrence, inspired by the phoenix at Limkokwing University’s entrance.

Koh Siaw Seng, Vienus Leng, Malyanah Mahfuzah, Alia Afiqah and Ayu Suriani received the ‘Best Architecture Trading Award’. They said the University’s creative culture helped them create products people wanted to buy, hence they managed to sell everything fast.

“We had anticipated what people would want to buy. The products that we made sold out in only 4 hours. It proves that in Limkokwing we are truly creative,’ said Koh Siaw Seng.

Nito Tan, Tan Jet Ying, Vienus Leng and Park Jeong Hyeon got the ‘Best Mural Award’ (Architecture Art Painting). They had created a blazing red phoenix mural which represented Limkokwing University’s creative spirit, diverse culture, and vibrant atmosphere.

Best Group Award was won by Chong You Leong, Ahmad Adlan and Sarah Erina for their good communication skills as a group, team work, and the ability to work together seamlessly in a short time.

The students credited their victory to Limkokwing University’s approach to education, which they said encourages them to explore their talents and develop skills.

The students said the TIANGSERI workshop gave them an opportunity to showcase their creativity and measure their abilities against their counterparts so they can improve themselves.

“The workshop gave me an opportunity to take risks, explore my potential and develop myself,” said Lobna Hassan from Egypt.

At the end of the workshop, Limkokwing University was selected as host for next year’s event, which will be themed ‘Futopia’, a theme that will ask students to make designs focusing on the future.
