Batik is one of our traditional crafts. It is a process of wax and dye penetration on fabric or ‘resist’ method. The usage of different media such as dyestuff, fabric embellishment and also the Batik implementation will create different texture and different effects. The uniqueness of the crafts make this course aims to provide an intellectual, creative environment and encourage critical debate to help focus and contextualise work, discovering and developing individual potential. Strong emphasis is placed on visual research, drawing for design and concept development. The curriculum will cover the history and the development of batik, marketing, branding, artistic skills and creative ideas.
The diploma itself offers a structured career path, and with a shortage of Batik designers at all levels, career prospects are excellent. The course is a stimulating blend of theory and practice designed to create graduates with the necessary skills to manage the processes involved in running a Batik business, fully equipped to join the demanding environment of a successful company. Career opportunities exist in buying and merchandising as well as related field in the Fashion Industry. The student will be equip with the relevant Batik industrial skills of design and technology, creative batik composition, colour analysis, shape development, research and theoretical to enable you to innovate new Batik products.
The late of Datin Seri Endon Mahmood (the Prime Minister’s wife) has been spearheading all the efforts in making batik industry regain its former glory. Several big-name companies have gone internationally in producing a good quality of ‘Malaysian Batik’. This uniqueness of batik with a mixture of culture will be the element that’s triggered the student’s interest towards the textiles development and patterns. The design produce will be totally different from global design but still maintain Malaysian identity as foundation.
Entry Requirement
Pass SPM 3 credits or other qualification which is recognized by Malaysian Government.
