Twenty five FELDA students from the Faculty of Design Innovation (FDI) and Faculty of Fashion and Lifestyle Creativity (FFLC) celebrated their conclusion of the Global University Campus programme in June at Malaysia’s High Commission in London.

During the programme, students were tasked to propose a rebranding and repositioning strategy for the Grand Plaza Hotel at Kensington, London. They were also instructed to compare and contrast the strategy with any typical English hotel on which they chose the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel.

An educational tour and visit to both the hotels was conducted to give students an in-depth understanding of the existing branding concepts. The tour involved a presentation of the trade and market analysis by staff of both the Grand Plaza and Sheraton Park Lane Hotel.

Applying the creativity they have learned throughout the semester into rebranding the hotel, Faculty of Fashion and Lifestyle Creativity students re-vamped the hotel staff attire for different departments for example, reception, service and kitchen staff. The objective was to aid customers in recognising which department they need assistance from. They also came up with innovative designs of the interior decoration for the reception, restaurant, rooms and bathrooms.

The final presentation of the designs and completion ceremony was attended by the Malaysia’s High Commissioner to London, His Excellency Ahmad Rasidi Hazizi; Limkokwing University Vice President, Brand Creativity and Talent Development, Dato’ Tiffanee Marie Lim; Limkokwing University Pro Vice Chancellor, Professor Cedric Bell and Limkokwing University London staff.

Other key guests included executives of the Grand Plaza Hotel: Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Mohd Jefri; Ms. Agnes Mierzwowicz, Residence Manager and Marketing Manager, Mr. Ranie Saidi and the award- winning Opera singer Marika Rauscher.
