Industry experts evaluate Limkokwing students’ final projects

Limkokwing University invited key industry practitioners from Sherman3D, Streamline Studios and a few other notable animation studios and production houses to evaluate students’ final projects at the Industry Review organised by the Faculty of Creative Multimedia.

The industry review which took place from 15 to 18 June involved students from Semester 2 to 6 pursuing their Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Creative Multimedia, Games Art Development, Games Design and Animation.

Their projects featured some of the finest animated commercials, public service announcements, product demos, TV shows, mobile and computer games which received positive feedback and constructive criticism from the industry guests.

“I think this is how the new world looks like,” said Christy Lee, Managing Director of Techmaki, one of the many industry professionals who was impressed with the works of Limkokwing students.

Lee also added that she would be pleased to hire some of the students in her company, highlighting their creativity and hardwork in producing quality work with industry standards in a short time frame.

Hussin Khan, a visual effects maestro who was credited for his works in movies like Life of Pi and The Hunger Games, felt that Limkokwing University is heading into the right direction.

“It’s really important to bring external influence from the industry for the students to get inspired and learn from the professionals,” he stated.

Limkokwing University has made this an annual practice to expose students to the industry critique practices. It does not only create a platform for students to promote their talents but also stimulate scholarly dialogues between the students and industry practitioners. This also cultivates a healthy relationship between the academics and industry experts that enable knowledge-sharing and creative discussions to generate new ideas for innovation.

Goh Yong Lin from Malaysia (Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Creative Multimedia) felt that the experience prepares students by giving a hint of what the industry demands.

“Industry visits and reviews expand our minds and give a glimpse of what to expect in the real world instead of being trapped in the classroom only with theories from textbooks,” she added.
