Limkokwing University wins big at the World Bloggers and Social Media Award 2015

Limkokwing University received two prestigious awards for the quality of its online content and engagement efforts at the World Bloggers and Social Media Award 2015 Gala Dinner, held on the 22 April at Zebra Square KL. The gala dinner was part of the 4th Malaysia Social Media Week event.

The World Bloggers and Social Media Award 2015 Gala Dinner was an exclusive occasion where Malaysia’s top social media practitioners were recognised and awarded for their contribution and achievements in the interactive media arena. The winners for the night were selected from online votes and the opinions of judges from around the world.

The event was graced by the Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia, YB Khairy Jamaluddin, who presented the awards to all the winners.

In his speech, YB Khairy said that social media is a powerful channel of communication that Malaysian should embraced. He added that, “You are the leaders in your own fields and industries when it comes in engaging your followers on social media,” and urged all social media practitioners to harness that power to create a positive change in the community.

All the award winners for the night were selected on the basis of active social media involvement particularly in the online platforms of Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, by the panel of judges and committee members.

Limkokwing University, through its award-winning multimedia development unit Centre for Content Creation (CCC), emerged as the winner for two categories.

For its quality content and excellent community engagement efforts, the University won the ‘Social Media Excellence Award for Education’. The University’s website has received a number of recognitions and is rated 3rd on Twitter and 6th on Facebook (for Education institutions). As of today, the University’s Facebook page has 1,425,286 likes and has over 387,000 Twitter followers. The University’s portal has received 280 million hits from 229 countries and territories and has also won 170 international awards for online creativity and innovative leadership from the year 2010 – 2014.

The University also won the ‘Social Media Excellence Award for Social Media Campaign – BE SMART’. For the ‘BE SMART’ campaign, Limkokwing University has collaborated with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to develop a solution to fight cybercrime as part of the University’s Social Corporate Responsibility. The ‘BE SMART’ crime prevention awareness campaign, in the form of a PDRM – Cybercrime Website designed and built by the Centre for Content Creation, taught Internet users how to watch out for scams, phishing, spoofing and fraudulent online purchasing.
