For her Limkokwing University offered her the chance to shine on her own.

Choosing Limkokwing

According to Siti Rahmayanti, Limkokwing University gave her the chance to showcase some of her people’s cultural heritage with students from other countries.

At the same time, she also said it enabled her with the chance to meet people from other cultures. This gave her a better understanding about how other people see things.

She credited Limkokwing for helping build her confidence which made her more open-minded and successful.

Promoting Tolerance and Unity

“Once you get to meet people from different countries, you get more exposure on their beliefs,” she said.

She adds that this is especially important in promoting tolerance and unity for her as a Limkokwing student.

“Being with them helped me to feel more happy,” she said while adding that the people she met in during the event have been eager to learn more about her culture and her country.

As an Aceh resident, her culture was shaped by the early Arab traders who frequented the region. According to her, the people of Aceh are highly religious and devoted to Islam, which is reflected in her traditional costume.

Sharing her culture

During the recent Limkokwing Cultural Festival, her decorative costume had won the ‘Most Elaborate’ Cultural Attire award for her country. She wore an intricately detailed Ulee Balang from Aceh, Indonesia which is a traditional royal wedding attire in North Sumatra.

The Ulee Balang costume were part of her Acehnese identity which have been passed down for generations. The costumes represented members of the Acehnese aristocracy which included the royal family and their allies.
