Students need to take note that in accordance with the Malaysian Constitution, Sarawak has separate immigration policies that have to be complied with apart from Malaysian immigration policies. This is applicable to all international students as well as Malaysian students coming from Sabah and West Malaysia.
All international students are required to apply for a Student Pass before commencing their studies in Malaysia. Students are required to provide the following documents and items for the Student Pass application.
Once the Student Pass is approved by the Sarawak Immigration Department, Limkokwing Institute will fax and courier the Student Pass Approval Letter to the student. The student shall then proceed to the nearest Malaysian Embassy with the visa letter to obtain a Single Entry Visa and arrange for an air ticket. The student must also present the Student Pass Approval at point of entry in Kuala Lumpur and Kuching.
International students are also required to undergo a medical check up before they can be issued with a Student Pass with Multiple Entry Visa by the Sarawak Immigration Department. This will be arranged for by the institute.
All international students in Sarawak on a student visa are NOT ALLOWED to work whilst they are studying.
Immigration policies for international students are applicable to most countries except for Indonesia and Taiwan.
Indonesians who are interested in studying in Sarawak can first enter the State as a visitor using the Social/ Visitor Pass.
Upon registration, students must present their passport to the International Student Office for visa verification. Students will also have to undergo the medical check up (which will be arranged for by the Institute).
Students will also be required to pay RM 515.00 for the Journey Performed (JP) Single Entry Visa in order for students to remain in the State to study without deportation from the Immigration Department. JP Visa is issued to students who have applied for a student pass but have yet to obtain them due to processing time.
For Indonesian students studying in Sarawak with a VALID student pass, you must obtain a Release Letter from the institution that you are currently studying in. This Release Letter cancels your current student pass, and you will need to bring your passport to Limkokwing to get the cancelled Visa photocopied so that it can be submitted with their new Student Pass Application from Limkokwing Institute.
Students from Taiwan must first apply for a Limited Journeys Document, which will act as a temporary travel document. The Student Pass and Multiple Entry Visa will be issued in this document. The above procedures apply for their Visa application.
Students will also be required to pay RM 515.00 for the Journey Performed (JP) Single Entry Visa in order for students to remain in the State to study without deportation from the Immigration Department. JP Visa is issued to students who have applied for a student pass but have yet to obtain them due to processing time.
West Malaysian and Sabah students are required to apply for a Student Pass before they can begin their studies. Students need to provide the following documents and items for the Student Pass application.
Students must also note that it is their responsibility to make sure that their current Student Pass with a current institution is cancelled before a new student pass to study in Sarawak can be issued.
Once the Student Pass is approved by the Sarawak Immigration Department, Limkokwing Institute will courier the Student Pass Approval Letter to the student.
When the student arrives at Limkokwing Institute, the student must submit their passport to the Sarawak Immigration Department to endorse for a Student Pass.
It is an immigration requirement that Student Passes need to be renewed on a yearly basis. Students are reminded that they will need to contact the International Students Office at least one month before their passes expire so as to facilitate the applications for renewal.
