Limkokwing Swaziland hosted final-year high school students for a week in its collaboration with Junior Achievement’s Job Shadow Programme as an effort to expose them to different industries, careers and performance expectations.

Junior Achievement (JA) is a global non-profit organisation dedicated to empower youths to their own financial success by enhancing their education through a series of business, economics and life-skills programmes.

The Job Shadow Programme was designed by JA Swaziland to provide high school students with the opportunity to experience real life industry practices. The programme allows the students to be a part of different organisations for a week to observe how the corporate environment operates.

Final year students from Siteki Nazarene High School, Angelo Du Pont, Nontsikelelo Mamba, Marcos Monjane and Siboniso Shongwe spent one week shadowing work stations at the University where the students had the opportunity to learn fundamental work skills and contribute towards the completion of daily work station tasks.

The students were also introduced to the University courses and attended some of the lectures to get a glimpse into the University’s creative modules and industry-based syllabus.

Sharing her experience, Nontsikelelo Mamba mentioned that leaving her work station at the end of each day was the least favourite part of her job shadowing experience.

“I really enjoyed learning the basics of front-desk management, photography and event planning during my job shadowing at Limkokwing University,” added Mamba.

Head of Academics, Stella Shongwe was impressed with the students for their general conduct during the job shadowing period.

“The students were disciplined, punctual and adapted well to their job-shadowing environment,” she commented.

Her observations were echoed by Registry Officer, Sabelo Dlamini who said the students’ curiosity showed that they were intelligent and willing to learn. Siboniso Shongwe, one of the high school student who worked with the Registry Office’s Campus Management System (CMS) was thrilled to receive the opportunity to job shadow at Limkokwing University.

“I was allowed to input data into the Registry Office’s CMS. I learned something new every day at different stations,” he exclaimed.

On the final day of their job shadowing period, students were presented with certificates in the farewell event organised by the University. During the event, JA Swaziland’s Business Development Manager, Stanley Mkhwanaz, thanked Limkokwing University for partnering with JA for the Job Shadow Programme.

He also appreciated the University’s efforts in for making the students’ job shadow experience exciting and informative, stating that feedback from the students showed their excitement while job shadowing at the University.

“The students are greatly enthusiastic at the prospect of enrolling at Limkokwing University and I believe, this experience actually urged them to work diligently in their studies so that they can enroll for courses that captured their interest during the job shadowing period,” he added.

Limkokwing University is widely applauded for its achievements in teaming up with global organisations to develop programmes that are designed to empower youths and contribute towards nation building.
