Limkokwing English International (LEI) bids farewell to first batch of hearing-impaired graduates from China
Limkokwing University and Limkokwing English International (LEI) bid a fond farewell to the first group of hearing-impaired graduates from China on 2 January 2018.
Their graduation is a successful culmination of an intensive 6-month course that began in July 2017 for fifteen students from the Zhengzhou Institute of Technology of the People’s Republic of China as part of a strategic partnership between Malaysia and China.
The programme builds proficiency in English for hearing-impaired underprivileged students under the One belt, One Road education initiative.
The graduation ceremony was also attended by Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Education II, YB Datuk Chong Sin Woon; Ministry of Foreign Affairs representative, Yong Kun Heng; Malaysia-China Embassy Cultural Director, Zhang Jiexin; Malaysia-China Cultural Attache, Wang Shuang; and representatives from various countries as well as representatives from the Malaysia Federation of the Deaf.
The ceremony enabled each graduate to receive a Proficiency in English Programme certificate.

For Ji Ting Ting, the graduation ceremony was a bittersweet moment.
“Today’s graduation was exciting but I was also sad and heartbroken because it meant that six months is over,” she said through an interpreter.
“I have no heart to leave and I would like to thank the University for the support it was provided to us,” she added.
She also mentioned her experience at Limkokwing had built her confidence through various industry-related workshops which enabled her to better communicate with people, thus pursue her dreams to become a teacher.
Another student, Li Jia Xing, expressed deep gratitude to the University’s lecturers in their professionalism and persistence.
“When I first came from China, I did not know English at all until I came to Malaysia,” he explained through an interpreter. “We lived separately from other people back in China but here I was exposed to people from all walks of life.”
“This made me realise that I can write and communicate and that made me a braver person.”
Limkokwing English International is Malaysia’s first and only centre to run an English language proficiency programme specially designed for hearing impaired students.
The University offers a multicultural learning environment that bridges citizens from different countries which peaceful coexistence while promoting global networking opportunities for graduates in various countries.
