Limkokwing students at the London Global University Campus programme took part in a workshop session presented by Lily Matorin to cultivate their creative capabilities and personal brands on 6 April.

Lily Matorin is the Founder and Director of Shopstation Ltd, an emerging high-tech e-commerce company that was featured in Forbes. Shopstation Ltd is an e-commerce solution platform that provides opportunities for online businesses to reach several target customers. The website features SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) support, social media mobility and optimised buying process for the global market. 

She shared her own personal experience with students at the Limkokwing Global Campus on developing a start-up company and also how each individual can apply their different talents to create a successful business venture.

Her five-module workshop was designed to help students to discover their unique personal branding and marketing capabilities. Students gain insights from her experiences on how to establish their own brand while competing in a globalised economy.

Matorin’s workshop emphasised on interaction through a simulated work environment that enables students to develop their interpersonal skills. These exercises allow students to understand their own strength and weaknesses.

These modules aim to develop students’ presentation and communication skills while fostering the importance of teamwork. Students were formed into groups and were assigned to establish a company. While learning how to solve various business related challenges, this interaction also encourages students to observe their peers and improve their own unique brands.

The workshop included module exercises whereby students have to prepare for job interviews. The simulated exercise focused on interaction with various clients and investors, presentation techniques as well as technical aspects such as accounting shareholder’s agreement.

Students received feedback from their peers while learning to improve their interviewing skills.

“I had no idea what to expect before going for an interview,” said BA (Hons) Communication with Psychology student Nivetha Rashi A/P Sokumar from Malaysia. “I learned that body languages and professional appearances are very important during job interviews.”

“Now I feel confident to answer an employer’s questions and prepare myself,” she added.

The workshop trained students to cultivate their creative ventures alongside their regular jobs. For example, students learned to utilise social media as a tool to develop their brands.

“It is crucial to have good personal branding as it speaks for your designs and creations, said Nigerian student Nwachukwu Chiedozie Jonathan who is studying Bachelor of Science (Architecture Studies). “Branding represents your brand and displays your skills when you are not there.”

“We can follow the examples of how we can improve the image we project to the public,” he added.

He also learned that good marketing presentation would create better visibility for brands while standing out from other competitors.

“Lily was very energising and was able to motivate us to focus on developing ourselves,” he added.
