Interior architecture trends such as biophilic design - including large, oversized indoor plants, natural fiber furniture - with increased use of rattan and wicker; arches - with curved doorways, rounded windows and arched mirrors are revolutionising the interior architecture industry.

With effects of the COVID- 19 pandemic, architects and designers are increasingly aware of their responsibility in meeting the demands of this ever changing landscape.

Making us proud from the city of Kluang, Johor, is our alumni in Bachelor of Arts in Interior Architecture Eugene Kng - Founding Director of his very own company, KNG Design Concept.

“I’ve always loved designing, especially drawing buildings. Being inspired and influenced by my father, I too wanted to start my own business. One of the key factors that drove me to start my own business was the shortage of time flexibility in taking care of my mum when she was sick.”

To-date, Eugene recalls how curious he was during orientation week. He was amazed at the idea of meeting friends from different countries, that spoke in various languages. “The environment has changed me from a shy to an outspoken person. I am always grateful to the University as I gained a lot of exposure- much more than I expected from the course itself.”

As a business owner, Eugene ensures streamlined operations and employee welfare as his employees are his company’s biggest asset.

He recently completed a retail project in the renowned KLCC. “I believe a well-designed retail store in our prestigious landmark building would attract consumers’ attention and boost our country’s economy.”

Eugene’s company also offers an internship programme to University students as he understands they need a platform to explore and gain practical working experience.

Being in the industry of interior design for almost ten years, the factor that drives Eugene’s success is his passion towards interior design. “My passion for the work has grown by taking on new challenges and resolving my clients’ problems. The job satisfaction I gained has been truly rewarding.”

“I am thankful for all the opportunities I’ve gained, including newspaper and radio interviews. I also got the opportunity to appear in the TV programme, “Tolong Rumahku” sponsored by Nippon Paint. Through this programme, I was able to witness the tireless efforts behind TV programmes”

As the list goes on for Eugene’s achievements, some of this glorious moments include being 2012 Nippon Paint Momento Special Effect Paint Top 15 Winner, 2016 IJM Designer Award 2016 Finalist, 2016 Nippon Paint consultant for the reality TV programme “Tolong Rumahku” aired on TV3, 2017 Jotun Paint consultant for the “Trend Beyond Colour” road show and 2019 Tzu Chi Sharing Talk.

Eugene also had the pleasure of being interviewed by the media at Sin Chew Daily Newspaper, Oriental Daily Newspaper, Nanyang Newspaper, China Press Newspaper, China Press Newspaper, Astro Melody FM, 2020 Astro Melody FM and 2020 AI FM.
