Botswana’s University of Transformation recently launched 100 Tan Sri Limkokwing Scholarships worth P 17 267 340.00 under the Limkokwing Foundation of Excellence in Education at a prestigious event held in Gaborone, Block 7 campus.

The 100% full tuition scholarships were distributed across various strategic sectors within the economy including; creative industries, special needs and vulnerable youths, entertainment industry, embassies and high commissions, media fraternity as well as Limkokwing alumni and staff.

The launch event was graced by representatives of embassies and high commissions of Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and Zimbabwe, BOMU and BEPA management as well as the National Director of MISA Botswana Mr. Tefo Phatshwane who received 16 scholarships on behalf of the Botswana Private Media fraternity.


Empowering Youth with 21st Century Skills

The guest of honour at the launch, Minister for Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development Honorable Tumiso Rakgare commended Limkokwing University and its leadership for availing the 100 scholarships as he sees education as the most important path to empower an individual.

“We are pleased as the Government that Limkokwing University of Creative Technology is contributing towards attainment of a knowledge-based economy. It is our strong view as a Ministry that local creatives are exceptionally talented, and that if well-coordinated the sector can contribute significantly to the economy.  It can create jobs for our people, particularly the youth,” Hon. Rakgare said.


Wider access to tertiary education

For his part, the Director, Coordinating Office for People with Disabilities Mr. Thomas Motingwa, who received 20 Scholarships on behalf of the Ministry of Presidential Affairs, Administration Governance and Public for People with Disabilities and OVC’s applauded the University for the noble gesture, highlighting, “As a Government we are indebted, as this gesture continues to widen access to tertiary education in general, to special needs of students living with disabilities in particular. The University has demonstrated commitment towards economic endeavours that uplift communities, engages the youth, and drive the use of new technologies by answering the call to the new markets.”

With the current challenges brought about by Covid-19, Limkokwing University continues play its part by assisting the nation to train more young people so that they can be equipped with 21st century skills to sustain themselves beyond the pandemic.
