H.E. Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa and YABhg Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad former Prime Minister of Malaysia.

A high-powered gathering of Malaysians and South Africans will celebrate the achievements of two global icons of peace and freedom on 27 August 2013.

South African President H.E. Jacob G. Zuma is arriving with an entourage of 50 people which includes five Cabinet Ministers, to receive the Lifetime Achievement recognition on behalf of H.E. Nelson Mandela, former President of South Africa bestowed by the Mahathir Global Peace Foundation.

Before that Malaysian Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Haji Abdul Razak will officially launch the Mahathir Award for Global Peace at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre.

YABhg Tun Dr Mahathir bin Mohamad’s struggle for peace is being carried through the Mahathir Award for Global Peace established by the Mahathir Global Peace Foundation which is headed by YBhg Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Limkokwing as Founder and Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Tan Sri Limkokwing is well known for his friendship with the two global statesmen.

The Foundation will be awarding the Lifetime Campaigner For Global Peace recognition to Tun Dr Mahathir and Nelson Mandela becomes the first recipient of the Foundation’s Mahathir Award for Global Peace, Lifetime Achievement.

The Ministers accompanying President Jacob Zuma include:

  • Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Minister for International Relations and Cooperation
  • Rob Davies, Minister for Trade and Industry
  • Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, Minister for Defence and Military Veterans
  • Malusi Gigaba, Minister for Public Enterprise, and
  • Ben Martins, Minister for Energy
