Limkokwing University Swaziland recently held its fourth annual media reception where it granted eight scholarships worth E480 000 to four Swaziland media houses.

The scholarships were conferred to two print media, Swazi Observer and The Times of Swaziland, national television Swazi Television Authority (STA) and national radio broadcaster Swaziland Broadcasting & Information Services (SBIS).

Present at the event were Mbongeni Mbingo, Managing Editor of the Swazi Observer; Martin Dlamini, Director of the Swaziland Broadcasting & Information Services; Nomcebo Malinga, Public Relations Officer of Swaziland Television Authority; Siphiwo Mabila, Times of Swaziland’s Human Resource Manager and Limkokwing University Swaziland staff.

On behalf of the media houses Mbongeni Mbingo expressed his profound gratitude to Limkokwing University’s Founder and President Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Dr. Lim Kok Wing, for providing them the opportunity to upgrade their knowledge and skills.

“We appreciate what Dr. Limkokwing has done for us because it is very hard for us to study while on the job as this is a challenging profession, the demands of the job makes it difficult to study, we are truly glad for this gesture,” he acknowledged.

Each media house was awarded two Associate Degree scholarships for any course of their choice in the Faculty of Communication, Media & Broadcasting worth E58 500 each, totaling E117 000 per media house for the 2015 academic year.

“These scholarships are meant to develop and contribute to the growing media sector in the kingdom and have proved to be appreciated and much needed by the industry in Botswana and Lesotho where they were introduced last year,” said Mercy Rebaone Thebe, Limkokwing University’s Regional Director for Corporate Industry & Media Relations.

She also said these scholarships will go a long way in changing lives of the individual beneficiaries by equipping them with relevant vital for their professions, the media industry at large and the societies they serve.
