Limkokwing University, a staunch advocate for community solidarity and engagement, recently participated in the NCCIM Pink Ribbon Wellness Carnival. The carnival, embodying themes of health and empowerment, represented a united effort in the ongoing fight against cancer.

The carnival was a vibrant tapestry of activities and education. Held at the KL Wellness City Gallery on the 29th of October 2023 in Bukit Jalil, the event marked the unity and collective thrust of support for a noble cause that resonated with every attendee. Limkokwing University’s involvement showcased its commitment to societal issues as it joined hands with other distinguished entities under the banner of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM). Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Rafidah Aziz, the Principal Patron of the National Cancer Society Malaysia, opened the carnival with a speech that set a tone of inspiration and solidarity.

The NCCIM Pink Ribbon Wellness Carnival’s goal was ambitious yet achievable — to generate RM20,000 in donations for the National Cancer Society. The carnival was a bustling hub of activity, offering something for everyone. It featured various booths, including 15 free ones dedicated to the B40s and Single Moms community, enabling them to display their products and specialities. Further, 25 outstanding women-led ventures added to the entrepreneurial spirit, setting up booths for a nominal fee, their presence a testament to the power and potential of women in business. This initiative was not only about raising funds but also about uplifting the community, providing a platform for these ventures to flourish.

The carnival also served as a confluence of wisdom and knowledge, with speakers from the National Cancer Society Malaysia and PDRM engaging the audience on critical issues like women’s safety and breast cancer awareness. It wasn’t all solemn discussions, though. The carnival made sure to weave in elements of fun and relaxation with engaging activities like Yoga and Line Dancing sessions, DanceRobic, and a special cultural performance by Limkokwing University’s students.

The Limkokwing University cultural performance stood out as the highlight of the carnival, offering a rich tapestry of creative expression that underscored the institution’s vibrant and dynamic educational philosophy. Limkokwing students took to the stage with enthralling performances celebrating cultural diversity, including traditional Malay and Indian dances. Each movement and gesture brought to life the rich heritage and artistic traditions of their respective cultures, encapsulating the spirit of unity and community engagement that the university holds dear.

Adding to the multicultural ambience was a unique musical segment where a gifted student played the Hulusi, a captivating free reed wind instrument hailing from China, known for its hauntingly beautiful melodies that resonate with the soul. The performance was further enriched by vocal renditions from students who showcased their singing talents. These performances, along with the diverse booths selling a myriad of food and merchandise, medical checks, and insightful talks, made for a day as informative as it was enjoyable.

The NCCIM Pink Ribbon Wellness Carnival, thus, was a day when the community came together not just to discuss the crucial topic of breast cancer but to take tangible steps towards making a difference. Limkokwing University’s involvement in such a cause underscores the institution’s dedication to not just education but to empowering communities and nurturing the leaders of tomorrow in the fight against cancer.

Limkokwing University has long been recognised as an institution that extends its reach beyond the academic sphere, intertwining its educational mission with a robust commitment to philanthropy.
