Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Computer Gaming & Animation Technology (3+0)

Awarded by Anglia Ruskin University, UK

Computer Gaming and Animation Technology will introduce you to the very latest technologies and techniques in gaming and animation. You will progress from gaming theory to game design and 2D and 3D digital animation, allowing you to create virtual worlds of your own design.

The skills you will learn are not just about games. They are increasingly valued by industry for use in teaching, marketing and modelling simulations.

The main aims of this course are:

  • To provide you with an understanding of the concepts, principles and practices of simulating active, intelligently-directed environments.
  • To allow you to apply these concepts together with a range of techniques to generate novel scenarios and experiences for users.
  • Combine creative and imaginative design with technical skills to implement your ideas.
  • Prepare for employment with confidence through personal development as well as competence in your professional abilities.

Game design has now evolved into an established body of principles that underpin game development. Within this context, emphasis is placed on the component of gaming unique to this art form - the interaction between players and the game world.

When you graduate you will be able to:

  • Understand the technological properties of gaming hardware, production software and programming languages.
  • Apply this knowledge to building games and programming interactive 3D environments.
  • Appreciate the deeper concepts that underlie user interaction, and computer-based games and simulations.
  • Continue to develop your knowledge of the subject by building on the sound cognitive foundations for this subject.

This course is about providing you with a range of skills required to succeed in a professional environment. It's also about giving you the intellectual skills required to allow you to continue to develop after you graduate, in order to keep pace with this dynamic industry.
