Mr. Anuar Malek, the Deputy General Manager for Community Development of FELDA, visited Limkokwing University on 30 September 2016 to meet FELDA students and further strengthen its collaboration with the University.

Formed in July 1956, the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) is a Malaysian government agency that was founded to organise smallholder farms and handle rural land development in the country. It has since engaged in a wide range of economic development and business activities, diversifying from its original business of land development to other economic ventures.

FELDA has launched several private corporate entities. The largest of these, FELDA Global Ventures Holdings, is considered to be the world’s largest plantation operator with 811,140 hectares (2,004,400 acres) of oil palms across Malaysia and various parts of the world. With a 21,300-strong workforce, FELDA runs more than 20 joint ventures with overseas partners. It owns over 70 palm oil mills, seven refineries, six kernel-crushing plants, five liquid bulking facilities and one oleochemical plant. Its annual revenue amounts to RM7 billion.

Since its establishment as a higher learning institution that offers creativity-focused education, Limkokwing University has always worked towards the capacity-building and education of Bumiputera students. The University has built close ties with FELDA, consistently training FELDA students since the year 2005.

Limkokwing University also initiated the ‘Generasi Baru’ programme in 2005, which was launched by Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak in London.

The programme aims to take FELDA students out of rural setups and give them access to competitive education in today’s highly-globalised world—eventually transforming them into creative, innovative and industry-ready graduates.

It seeks to equip and empower these students with tertiary education in various TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) courses such as animation, broadcasting, digital photography, interior design, hair design, fashion and apparel design, graphic design, advertising, information technology, and business and tourism management.
