Limkokwing University welcomed Kazakhstani students from different universities in Malaysia to celebrate the Independence Day of Kazakhstan.

As 16 December 2014 marked the 23rd Independence Day of Kazakhstan, Limkokwing University became host for the special celebration organised by the Association of Kazakhstani Students of Malaysia on Saturday, 13 December 2014 in the Hall of Fame.

The celebration was officiated by the representative from the Embassy of Kazakhstan in Malaysia, Counsellor Askar Kuttykadam. He congratulated all Kazakhstani students and thanked the guests for coming together to celebrate the 23rd Independence Day of Kazakhstan.

Counsellor Kuttykadam also thanked Limkokwing University for hosting the celebration, saying that, “I am very happy to be here at Limkokwing University, a world-renowned educational institution and I’m happy to observe that many Kazakhstani students study here. I wish that our relations with Limkokwing University continue for the benefit of Kazakhstan and Malaysia, for the benefit of our political relations, which are very prosperous and dynamic.”

Counsellor Kuttykadam went to say that there are over 3,000+ Kazakhstani students currently in Malaysia. He said that this wasn’t possible 23 years ago, and that, “Now, Kazakhstan is quite a dynamic and vibrant nation, established democracy with active international profile. Unless this independence took place some 20 years ago, we couldn’t have so many Kazakhstani students here.”

The national anthem of Kazakhstan was then played, signaling the start of the celebration. Kazakhstani students from the various universities gathering at the Hall of Fame took to the stage to present their performances to the delight of the audience.

First up, students from SEGI University performed a beautiful classic Kazakh love story while Kazakh’s professional musician Tukeeva Zhansaya played a national piece, ‘Kui Konil Tolkyny’ with the Dombra (a Kazakh national musical instrument).

Along with Limkokwing University students who gave an artistic performance involving singing and free-style dance, students from Multimedia University, HELP University, Sunway University and Asia Pacific University also showcased their talents through wonderful performances.

Best performance of the celebration was awarded to Limkokwing University students, given by the Association of Kazakhstani Students of Malaysia’s president, Kazbek Bauyrzhanuly from SEGI University.

“I am proud to study in Limkokwing University. Look at the performers from our university. They stand out and look unique. I came here to support my friends who performed just now,” said Maral Islamova (Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Accounting).

The night was a cultural journey arranged by a pool of young talents and the event ended with the audience invited to feast on Kazakhstani traditional food and beverages.

Magzhan Tuyakbayev from Nottingham University said that being at the celebration made him felt proud and patriotic. He said that the celebration is a good place for Kazakhstani students to gather and at the same time introduce others to Kazakhstani’s culture. “Celebrations like this are good as international students get some knowledge about Kazakh culture.”
