Students from Limkokwing’s Faculty of Creativity Multimedia paid a visit to leading Triple A games and animation developer Lemon Sky.

Led by Senior Lecturer Mr. Nigel Gan, 30 students from three Games and Animation programmes under Limkokwing University’s Faculty of Multimedia Creativity (Animation, Games Arts Development and Games Technology) went on an industry visit to Lemon Sky Animation Sdn. Bhd., one of the leading Games and Animation developers in Malaysia last week.

As explained by Mr. Gan, creative technology education has always been one of Limkokwing University core areas, thus its students are always inspired and motivated to come out with industry standard work quality in all their students’ works/projects. University and industry collaboration is one of the methods the University employs to motivate the students to improve both their knowledge and skills. This will also expose the students to some of the latest technologies and implementations in the industry.

On the pick of Lemon Sky as a visit choice, Mr. Gan explained that Lemon Sky has been aggressively expanding in both size and project content during the past recent years. The studio was involved with many Triple A games development as well as many animation projects from other countries, thus, in terms of portfolio, Lemon Sky is indeed very strong. For those not well versed in games’ lingo, Triple A (AAA) is a classification term used for games with the highest promotion and development budgets. Lemon Sky has been involved in the development of many popular and successful Triple A titles such as the Resident Evil series and Call of Duty.

The studio currently has more than 200 staff and soon will be expanded to 400 plus. According to Mr. Gan, such scale is very rare to be seen at the local industry level. “The faculty wishes to establish a healthy bond with the studio, as to continue to gain both feedback and supports for internships, career opportunities and partnerships from the studio’, added Mr. Gan more.

Student Kevin Johanes Tantowi, doing the BA in Animation felt very elated to able to join in the industry visit. “My entire reasoning in joining the course I am taking now is solely based on my dream to pursue a career as a games artist”. He added that after seeing the works done in Lemon Sky, he is inspired even more to complete his study and to work towards achieving his dream.
