Limkokwing University of Creative Technology held a graduation ceremony for 1,183 students from around the world on the 19th July, at Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC).

Among the distinguished guests at the event was Limkokwing University Chancellor; Her Royal Excellency Sultanah Pahang Sultanah Hajjah Kalsom DK, Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) Chairman; YB Tan Sri Datuk Seri Utama Haji Mohd Isa bin Dato’ Haji Abdul Samad, and Founder and President of Limkokwing University, Tan Sri Limkokwing.

In opening the ceremony, Tan Sri Limkokwing congratulated the graduates and thanked them for the hard work and effort they put towards their studies. He said the students had grown both in knowledge and character, and have brought energy and vibrancy to the University campus.

He reminded the students that founders of world leading companies such as Facebook and Twitter were just as young when they started their companies, hence the graduates should not fear making their mark in the word. He said their time in the University has equipped them with the necessary skills and capability necessary for such.

“You now have the talent to shape and design the world,” he said.

He also thanked the parents and families of the graduates, some of whom had travelled from abroad, to see their children and loved ones graduate.

The proudest people here must be the parents, if not for you, we will not be celebrating here today.

“The proudest people here must be the parents, if not for you, we will not be celebrating here today,” he added.

The graduates expressed gratitude towards the University and the Limkokwing community in general for their experience throughout their studies. They said being in Limkokwing University has not only improved their knowledge and skills, but also developed their character and made it possible for them to meet people from all over the world.

“I am grateful I’ve met so many interesting, intelligent and talented people at this University,” said Karolina Baltulyte, a Bachelor of Arts in Digital Film and Television graduate from Lithuania.

Students thanked the founder of the University, Tan Sri Limkokwing for providing them a place where they could find their true self and develop to their full potential.

“I would like to thank Tan Sri Limkokwing, without whom none of us will be here today celebrating this glorious moment,” said David Gituen Marcus, a Malaysian Bachelor of Arts in Interior Architecture graduate, who received an award for the Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Paduka Lim Kok Wing Award for Leadership.

During the event, Datuk Seri Utama Haji Mohd Isa bin Dato’ Haji Abdul Samad was conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Leadership. The Honorary Doctorate was in recognition to his charismatic leadership throughout the various positions he has held, including Chief Minister and a Federal Minister.

His current position as Chairman of FELDA sees him spearheading and organization deeply involved in fulfilling Malaysia’s aspiration of moving the country’s economy to a high income status.

I would like to thank Tan Sri Limkokwing, without whom none of us will be here today celebrating this glorious moment.

When receiving his Doctorate, he expressed gratitude towards the University for recognizing and honouring his efforts. He said education was a gift that prepares young minds to take on the world, and encouraged the graduates to put the quality education they received from Limkokwing University to good use.

“Education, while it is the right of everybody to be educated, it is also a gift that prepares a young person to take his or her place in society,” he said.

He also said he was impressed with the improvement he had seen in most FELDA students, especially after they spent a semester in London for the University’s Global Classroom programme.

“I could see that the exposure had done wonders for the confidence level of the youths,” he said.

He said the experience had helped the FELDA students to be in par with other students from urban areas and be able to compete in global markets.

“Most of them come from rural heartland and were put in Europe’s most powerful and vibrant city. They came back speaking English fluently and their understanding of the new technology has improved.”
