The 15th MSC Malaysia APICTA Awards 2014 yesterday saw the entry by Limkokwing graduates winning the Merit Award in the Best Tertiary Student Project – Creative Multimedia category.

Themed ‘ Stimulating Creativity, Innovation & Excellence in ICT ’,  this year’s event was broadcast live from Auditorium RTM to the entire nation, the first time ever in its history. The MSC Malaysia APICTA Awards 2014 saw a total of 337 submissions from all over the country. The submissions were selected by a panel of judges consisting of experts and ICT thought leaders.

The Chairman of Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC), Tan Sri Abdul Halim Ali, in his opening address said APICTA is the assembly of the country’s ICT industries finest and is an occasion to explore potential opportunities for the future, thus the APICTA Awards will remain relevant and will continue to be so. He also said that the winners and merit recipients in the APICTA Awards will be groomed to compete against other regional innovators.

“I am happy to note that the MSC Malaysia APICTA Awards have so far proven to be effective stepping stones for top local companies to fully realise their potential and make it on to the world stage”, he added.

The vibrant graduates from Limkokwing University submitted their entry of a 3D multi-player shooter entitled ‘BLUE’. BLUE was actually a collaborative final semester project by 15 students from both the faculties of Information & Communication Technology and Multimedia Creativity. Developed using the Unreal Engine, BLUE lets players roam a harsh and dire post-apocalyptic world where the earth is underwater.

Team leader Lim Gieng Fung said the team is feeling elated. “Getting the merit is a big achievement for us. Having heard that we have another chance to participate further in Jakarta, Indonesia, we feel good. We can advance to the next round and can prove our worth on the international stage”, he remarked.

All MSC Malaysia APICTA 2014 winners and merit recipients will go on to represent Malaysia at this year’s International APICTA Awards which will be held in Jakarta, Indonesia from 27 to 30 November 2014. The Malaysian representatives will be pitting their solutions and ideas against teams from Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, Chinese Taipei, Macao, Pakistan, Hong Kong, Brunei and Vietnam.
