The second London Fashion Forum for Young Designers which was recently held in Limkokwing London unveiled more emerging innovative designers and inspiring individuals from the fashion industry.
On hand to officially launch the forum, held on 9 September 2014, was the President of Limkokwing Fashion Club, Dato’ Tiffanee Marie Lim. In her welcoming speech, Dato’ Tiffanee outlines her vision for the Limkokwing Fashion Club, the first university label created by students. Dato’ Tiffanee went on to say that the club has received recognition from world famous magazines such as Vogue, and many more, with Harpers Bazaar even calling the club ‘”World Class”. “Limkowing Fashion Club is well on its way to becoming a global fashion star”, she added.
After Dato’ Tiffanee’s inspiring speech, footwear designer Andre McQueen took to the stage as he spoke about how he designed from waste products. This young Trend Forecaster amazed the audience as he revealed the aspects that interest him in designing, which are mostly social and political happenings. As he spoke on 3D printing, it is obvious to see how this is going to set the transformation of the fashion world.
This was followed by Arlette Lee, another designer with a cutting edge fashion who started her business with one vision. Lee wanted to create a simple versatile quality of garments for people to wear all over the world. She discovered the exceptional natural fiber called Alpaca and began working closely on this garment.
Her presentation made the audience curious to know more. Luckily Lee brought some of her garments with her and passed them around so that the audience could get the chance to feel the fabric.
The second half of the forum was filled with talks on fashion and sustainability in the fashion industry. The speakers included Tamsin Lejeune, the Founder and CEO of Ethical Forum, and Monisha Shivdasani, the Brand Specialist at House of Fraser and a Limkokwing University’s London campus alumni.
The forum ended with a demonstration of live hair fashion styling by Sara and Andrea from Vanity Plas. One of the London Global Campus student, Melissa Fernando, studying BA Broadcasting Journalism had the opportunity to be a model for Andrea. The audience were on their feet, watching in excitement as Andrea did the makeover in a performance style with a new approach to layering the hair.
The London Fashion Forum for Young Designers is filled with a vast insight on fashion for the audience to grasp on. It managed to identify and also foresee the current social and cultural movements in order to explore innovative designs and fresh markets. The forum indeed created a positive platform for networking as the participants had the opportunity to establish good connections and to discover new ideas on improving their creation.
