Limkokwing steps up art promotion

In a glittering event, Limkokwing University officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding with and the Botswana Society for the Art this week on Wednesday. The two organisations marked the beginning of new frontiers between two youth-oriented, creativity-driven and focused on the promotion of arts and culture in Botswana.

Vice President, Academic Management, Dr Raphael Dingalo, said the university fits the whole world, provides graduates as it finds it fit to sign the memorandum with the Botswana Society For the Arts. The university has already signed several memorandum of understanding with a number of organisations, amongst them being: Vision 2016 Council, Department of Broadcasting Services, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture and Yarona fm. He further said art represents not only the outward appearance but also the inward significance. “Our students in the industry are given the best inward significance. Limkokwing graduates always display their creativity and innovative skills in the industry”, he said. He further mentioned that amongst the roles of the Botswana Society of the Arts, it improves the profile of the arts and also provides help and advice to artists through skills-training, professionalism, information dissemination. “Improving profiles of artists through lobbying, advocacy, skills-training, professionalism, then one is talking Limkokwing University of Creative Technology,” he said.

Meanwhile the BSA chairperson, Felicity Leburu, speaking at the event said they found it relevant to partner with Limkokwing University to ensure their dream is realised as artists develop their skills and compete internationally to sell their products and skills; this will ensure economic diversification for the country. This partnership will help in promoting an arts and culture in Botswana, stimulate interest within the youth on arts and culture and advance the local arts talent to an international platform. It will also extend access to Limkokwing students and staff to as well as BSA members to use each other’s facilities and programmes for training purposes where possible. She said the BSA has been in existence since 1996 and has worked tirelessly to advocate for the development of the arts in the country and for them to occupy their rightful place in development. She emphasised that the partnership will help develop the arts and also grow the market for artists. The partnership will also go a long way in creating among Batswana, respect and appreciation for the arts.
