Limkokwing London hosted a 2-day event during the London Technology Week, in partnership with Malaysia Creative Tech Showcase 2015.

London Technology Week brings together domestic and international technology experts to London for a variety of networking, social learning as well as business opportunities. It includes international conferences, workshops, investor meetings, pitching competitions and hackathons. Topics ranged from gaming, big data, IT, wearables, education, music, sport, fashion, finance and science.

The Malaysia Creative Tech Showcase 2015 event at Limkokwing University, held on 15 and 16 June, was officiated by Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Datuk Dr. Abu Bakar Bin Mohammad Diah.

Also present were the Malaysian High Commissioner Dato’ Ahmad Rasidi Hazizi; Limkokwing University’s Vice President (Brand, Creativity and Talent Development) Dato’ Tiffanee Marie Lim; UK Trade & Investment’s Director of Creative Economy, Tech and Construction Sue Bishop and Malaysia Creative Tech Showcase 2015 Chairman Noor Azman Yusof, and various industry representatives.

Following the officiating ceremony, an industry presentation about ‘The Status of the Creative Industry in Malaysia’ was given by Ms. Yang Mee Eng, Manager for Business Development/Outbound (Games), and Creative Multimedia Division from Multimedia Development Corporation Malaysia.

Another presentation was by Mr. Mark Leaver, the Creative Specialist from UK Trade and Investment, who gave a fascinating insight into contemporary British creativity in his ‘UK Creative Industries Overview’ speech.

Dato’ Raja Aznil, Limkokwing Vice President of Industry Relations, and Professor Cedric Bell, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Limkokwing University, concluded the industry presentation with their talk on ‘Innovation in Global Tertiary Education’.

In addition to the industry presentations, students attending the Limkokwing’s Global University Campus programme staged a 5-minute project presentation, ‘InnovApps – The App for Tomorrow’, as part of a competition to design a revolutionary mobile phone application.

Four teams were tasked to create “the one app that is desperately needed that has yet to be realised”. The teams conducted research on current status of the global mobile application market, reviewed major players and investors, studied success stories and explored potential emerging markets.

Limkokwing University also offered a prize of GBP£300 to the winning team. This prize is given to enable the students to launch their winning idea into the commercial marketplace.

The Malaysia Creative Tech Showcase 2015 event at Limkokwing University enabled guests and visitors to take part in one-to-one Business Matching sessions, which booked meetings with participating creative businesses with which they would be interested in working with (including .SimpliPhi, MegaSap, Emgraft, Loonaq, Aerodyne, and Infinite Motion, among others).

Limkokwing University’s partnership with Malaysia Creative Showcase 2015 and London Technology Week is part of the University’s industry learning approach that nurtures creative ideas that can be applied into the commercial marketplace.
