Professional design students from the Faculty of Design Innovation organised an exclusive shoe showcase on 21 November to display their new shoe concept designs at Limkokwing University’s KL campus.

The ‘Bump Here’ exhibition is a showcase of the final project works of students from Limkokwing University’s Faculty of Design Innovation (FDI) doing the Bachelor of Design (Hons) in Professional Design (Visual Communication). For their final projects, the students were required to create new shoe concept designs and create their own brands, which are all then displayed here at the exhibition.

The event kicked off at 6pm as students welcomed the invited guests and ushered them to the centrepiece showcase, ‘Shoe Monster’, a sculpture made completely from old and used shoes. The guests were guided throughout the exhibition, with each student explaining their concept ideas and the rationale behind the chosen brand name.

Students were then invited to the stage to share their experience in organising the showcase. Videos of the faculty’s and students’ projects and achievements from the past were also shown.

“The objective of today’s exhibition is to show and share the work of Limkokwing students as an inspiration for the public’s view and to bring joy and motivation in design fieldwork, so that more people would join this exciting career,” said student Chrystal Lee Dharmawan.

She also expressed that the exhibition helps and motivates the students to be more bold and confident in sharing their work to the rest of the world.

Student Alireza Hooshangi said that the whole idea behind the exhibition was to enable the students to explore their creativity and their passion for creating and designing something new.

Alireza explained that “being creative was one of the main reasons that made this idea come to life. We want to show that being creative is beautiful. It makes people think, think in a good way that life is beautiful. That’s one of the reason I become a designer in the first place.”

Student Mas Muna Abdul Rahman agreed with Alireza, saying her concept design idea “was based on our passion in designing and creating something innovative, which was inspired by our own identity.”

According to FDI lecturer Miero Saeed, the Bump Here exhibition was a perfect platform for the students to showcase their talents to the public, and more importantly, to the industry people. Holding exhibitions, such as Bump Here, help the students explore and demonstrate their creativity and get inspired by the appreciation and recognition they received from the guests and the public.
