Cyberjaya: 15 April – A total of 416 children of Felda settlers nationwide will become the first batch of Generasi Baru graduates, who will graduate in a special convocation ceremony held this Saturday.
The convocation will be officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
The university’s vice president for Network Development and Student Services Department Nazaruddin Abdul Jalil said the convocation is as a result of the university’s creative and innovative programme for the Generasi Baru Felda which was initiated by Najib in 2005.
“This programme is the university’s contribution under the Ninth Malaysian Plan, with the collaboration with Felda. It gives the younger generation of Felda settlers, further exposure towards modern education.”
“This convocation also marks an achievement that those from the rural areas are able to compete in the international field,” Nazaruddin told reporters here yesterday.
A total of 49 students were also selected and pinpointed to achieve various awards for their academic and curriculum achievements.
According to Nazaruddin, the university also sent 29 Generasi Baru students to pursue their study for one semester at Limkokwing University, London.
“This university is among the four best Malaysian institutions in London that received the accreditation from the International Colleges Accreditation Service,” he said.
Till now, its campus in Cyberjaya has 8,000 students from 110 countries, besides the 1,300 Generasi Baru students.
The Generasi Baru students are being fully sponsored by the Government, with an allocation of RM9.6 million or RM20,000 for each student for their three year course.
