Saiful Aziman Mazlan, who just graduated from Limkokwing University last December, walked away from the 7th Festival Filem & Video Pelajar Malaysia (FFVPM7) as the winner in the Best Graphics category for his short film titled ‘Revolusi J.’
He managed to overcome competition from 13 other entries submitted by other universities and institutes of higher learning such as Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Akademi Seni Budaya dan Warisan Kebangsaan (ASWARA), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) as well as the host, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UNIMAP). For his efforts, he received a cash prize of RM500 and a certificate.
According to Saiful, he was very excited and quite shocked once they announced his name for the Best Graphics award. It was his first short film after all.
“It was my first attempt at making a short film that I actually produced for my final project. I wasn’t expecting to win anything, only to gain experience and exposure at industry level. However, with the award that I won tonight, I believe this would be a stepping stone to achieving my dream of becoming one of the greatest filmmakers. I’m also hoping that this award will give me encouragement to produce more quality films in the future,” said Saiful.
FFVPM7 was jointly organized by the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS) and UNIMAP with the aim of preserving and promoting Malaysian culture, heritage and history through film and animation mediums. The theme this year was ‘1Malaysia’ with the awards night being held at Dewan 2020 in Kangar, Perlis on the 16th January, 2010.
Saiful, who graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Creative Multimedia, also saw his entry nominated as a finalist in the Short Drama category.
