Limkokwing University (LUCT) will be awarding an Honorary Doctorate in Humanities to the President of Botswana at the university’s premier convocation at its Gaborone campus tomorrow.

Festus G Mogae has been leading the stable and developing country in southern Africa with his central leadership since 10 years ago has already stated his agreement to attend and accept the honour.

LUCT President, Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Lim Kok Wing, says the honorarium is an acknowledgement by the university towards the leader who has been astute in his efforts to prepare education quality opportunities to his people to produce many highly educated young people.

He says throughout the 40 years he has been a civil servant, Mogae as the country’s third president has a clear vision in his efforts to strengthen human capital as the country’s next leaders.

“This graduation ceremony is the first time it is held outside the main campus in Cyberjaya.

“This historical moment is recorded in Botswana so the graduating students’ family can celebrate the moment together,” he says in a press statement in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

Through the graduation ceremony as well, the university endeavours to gather all LUCT alumni in Botswana who are now successful in each of their careers, especially those who are in the creative industry and holding important positions in the public and private sectors.

At the ceremony as well, he says there are 125 graduates from the Faculty of Creative Multimedia, Architecture and Built Environment, Design Innovation, Media and Broadcasting, Business Management and Globalisation as well as Information and Communication Technology.

However, there are also graduates from the Botswana campus who choose to accept their degrees at the Cyberjaya graduation ceremony that will be held this coming February.

To celebrate the first graduation in Botswana, 125 graduates from 2001 to 2007 has been invited to attend.

Out of the 125, 33 of them are working with LKW where 31 are at the Botswana campus as a lecturer and administration officers such as marketing executives and registrars. Two of the other graduates are working in the marketing department at the Cyberjaya campus.
