
The visit by a delegation from the Embassy of the Republic of Botswana in Kuala Lumpur to Limkokwing University on 9 March 2010 is part of Botswana’s desire to further develop existing ties with the University.
Led by Mr. Kalane, the delegation also comprised the Education Attaché, Ms Masego Thipe and the Assistant Education Attaché, Mr. Kilano.
They were received by the University’s Vice President, International Market Development, Dato Dr Jayles Yeoh, Botswana students and other senior Limkokwing officials.
The visit was to introduce Masego and Kilano who were recently appointed by the Embassy to handle students’ affairs with local institutions, Limkokwing University.
The day-long visit started off with a tour of the Worldwide Gallery, Presidential Library and the Branding Innovation Centre. Taking them through was the Senior Vice President of Limkokwing University, Ms Gail Phang.
Later, the Embassy team made a courtesy call on the President of Limkokwing University, Tan Sri Dato Sri Dr Lim Kok Wing who was instrumental in taking creative education to Botswana.
Tan Sri Lim is passionate about developing 21st education in the African continent and Botswana is his doorway to that vision.
At the opening of Limkokwing University Botswana in 2007, Tan Sri explained his concept of shaping the future of Botswana.
“We train our students to break the norm. We imbue them with a strong sense of passion, inspire them with big ideas and motivate tem to succeed. We are about inculcating leadership and promoting excellence. Our students stand out because of the way they think, the way they carry themselves and the results they produce.”
Limkokwing University of Creative Technology currently has 3 campuses in Botswana, which is been seen as the African continent’s hub of 21st learning.
Here, the focus is to produce an education that empowers a new generation of creative, techno-savvy Botswana graduates with the capability to build Botswana.
Currently, there are over 600 hundred Botswana students on the Cyberjaya campus and over 12,000 studying in Limkokwing University Botswana.
The visit then progressed into a series of meetings with the hosts that focused on topics such as addressing students on policy matters pertaining to their sponsorship and consultative sessions with the various officials from FMG, Marketing, Registry, Finance and International Student Service.
Mr. Kalane and his team spent the rest of the afternoon with Botswana students.
