It was a night of surprises, fun and excitement at the recent Maya Intervarsity Dance Competition at Limkokwing University.

The event was especially memorable for students of Masterskill University, who bagged not only the first prize for the night under the best dance performers category, but also went home with the Most Popular Dance Group award.

Pulling off an outstanding performance, the crowd cheered as soon as the group took to the stage. Filled with energy from start to finish, their colourful costumes and makeup also gave the young ladies some added zest to their moves.

The event was held to raise funds for the institution’s charity – Heal the World.

The funds collected were to be used to buy medicine and medical supplies for the Palestinian people in Gaza. Organised by the institution’s Indian Cultural Club, the event was more than just a dance competition as it featured a fashion show, and performances by the Indian Cultural Club members.

The crowd-puller was a car exhibition which showcased over 100 modified cars by the Malaysia Indian Motorsports Association (MIMA).

There were also performances by artistes such as Dr. Burn, K-town Clan, GoldKartz, Twisted Edge, and a Chinese dance group “V”.

President of the Limkokwing Indian Cultural Club and director of Maya, Vicram Lachumanan said: “Maya in Sanskrit means illusion.

The concept behind Maya is to dance to reality, to make an illusion of unity into a hopeful yet concrete realisation.”

The dance competition also saw the participation of other institutions which included HELP University College, Multimedia University, INTI University College, KDU College, Taylor’s University College and Sunway University College.

Also present at the event was Deputy Foreign Minister Senator A. Kohillan Pillay, Goa movie director Venkat Prabhu, Akademi Fantasia choreographer Linda Jasmine, and I-Passions owner Shaila Nair.
