
It was a historic occasion at the recent convocation of the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology as the Deputy Prime Minister Dato’ Ser Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak was conferred the Honorary Doctorate Degree in Social transformation.
The Deputy Prime Minister received the award from the university’s president Tan Sri Limkokwing.
The Honorary Doctorate Degree was bestowed upon Datuk Seri Najib in recognition of his excellence leadership in rural development of the country.
Eventhough the social transformation at the rural level as envisioned by Najib requires quite a long time to bear its results, he continues to strive to provide a platform that will ensure success in the next 50 years.
Najib, who holds a Bachelor Degree in Industrial Economy (Honours) from the Nottingham University, England, realizes the importance of education and its role in developing the potential among the younger generation.
For that, Najib aspires to change the younger generation mindset, especially those still adopting old traditional outlook, through an approach that is able to preserve their traditions and cultural values.
During the convocation ceremony, a total of 416 graduating students, all of whom are children of Felda settlers from around the country, received their diplomas from various disciplines.
The graduating class of 2007 is the first batch of Generasi Baru students, sponsored by Felda and the University, who graduated from Limkokwing University, Cyberjaya.
The students received their diplomas in various disciplines namely in animation, broadcasting, creative multimedia, digital & interactive art, digital video, fashion & apparel design, hair design, interior design and packaging design & technology.
The Generasi Baru programme is jointly offered by the university and Felda with the aim to enable more children of its settlers to receive higher education.
This year’s Generasi Baru graduates also broke new grounds as most passed with flying colours. A total of 49 students were recognised for their academic and extra-curricular distinction, outstanding contribution and various other areas of excellence.
Three students, Mohd Radzi Rajudin (Faculty of Creative Multimedia, Mohd Jaslin Puasa (Faculty of Architecture and Built Environment) and Nur Ainiah Che Rashid (Faculty of Communication, Media and Broadcasting) received the highest Dato’ Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak Award for Creativity and Innovation from the Deputy Prime Minister.
Apart from that, other students who performed admirably also received various other awards such as High Achievers Award, Excellence Award, Limkokwing Global Clasroom Certificate of Achievement and Student Ambassadors Certificate of Distinction.
