In the spirit of the Hari Raya festivities, Limkokwing University’s Indonesian and Malaysian society, held a breaking of fast event and a bazaar to promote unity and embrace the spirit of multiculturalism.
The bazaar was set up at the university plaza for the day, where students of both the societies had a chance to sell traditional Indonesian food such as ayam bakarbondi, and local Malaysian rendang ayam to other students and visitors.
The evening saw diverse entertainment, including traditional Indonesian and Malay dances, and a few vocal performances.
Indonesian society president Lucky Handoko said that the event was organised to reinforce the unity between Indonesian and Malaysian students at the institution.
Welcomed by Limkokwing University vice-president of Network Development and Student Services Datuk Nazaruddin Abdul Jalil, the special guest for the night was Indonesian education attache M. Imran Hanafi.
Meanwhile, 20 years after Poland’s struggle for freedom, an exhibition featuring a variety of picture timelines depicting the country’s political struggles of the 1980s which resulted in the fall of communism in Poland and Central Europe, was held at the institution.
Launched by Polish ambassador to Malaysia Eugeniusz Sawicki, the two-day exhibition called ‘Decade of Solidarity’ officially commenced with the Polish national anthem.
“Solidarity, bravery and responsibility are the virtues that brought freedom to nations oppressed by totalitarian rule and paved the way for a new order in Europe,” Eugeniusz said.
He also spoke of the ties that Malaysia and Poland had shared for four decades.
To further embrace the spirit of cultural understanding, there was also a Polish film screening Man of Iron, for the students.
