Attending various leadership courses may seem unimportant to some students, but in reality it brings 1,001 benefits if the person is able to absorb the knowledge and change.

The leadership courses can result in positive changes that may lead someone to being the best student. The determination and motivation that one receives after finishing a course can prompt someone to work hard and develop the potential to be the best student. This is the success story of Nur Ainiah Che Rashid who became the best student at Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.

Nur Ainiah or affectionately called Ain shares her story of success after attending several leadership courses. The 21-year-old girl said her passion led her to attend various leadership courses organised by Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.

“I have gained a great deal of experience after participating in various programmes. I am known to be a quiet person before pursuing my diploma course in July 2005. I did not even talk much to my close friends. I was branded arrogant. I didn’t know why I was shy although I am interested in broadcasting. But I became a changed person after taking part in the courses, and I was more at ease to talk to people. I have also developed greater confidence in hosting the Retro and Mystery Night at Limkokwing University,” she said.

“My family was happy to see the transformation in me. They had given me the encouragement and support to chase my dream. The continuous support led me to this success that I have now as I managed to remove all the negative traits. I managed to be a better person owing to my determination and support from loved ones and close friends. Without their support, I certainly would not have succeeded.”

Four top awards

Who would have imagined that this girl who was once timid would rise to the occasion and capture four top awards at a Limkokwing graduation ceremony? This Generasi Baru student did Felda proud. The honours included Higher Achievement, Industrial Award and Ambassador Award.

“My graduation was much sweeter when I obtained the Tun Abdul Razak award, which I had hoped for. I must thank all who have assisted me though I have made serious efforts and said countless prayers. Above all, I must thank my lecturer, Letfee Ahmad, for his guidance, “she said.

A native of Kuantan, Pahang, Ain, who loves bowling, said her participation in academic activities organised by the university helped her to improve her studies. Such activities were part and parcel of the learning process, she noted.

“I would take advantage of the experience gained from the participation but there is no secret recipe for my success. Just focus on your studies and develop a good character,” she said.

Ain added that her daily activities at the university had helped her improve her personality. Since a communications student is required to have the necessary oratory skills, Ain is always trying to improve her English. The fourth child in a family of five siblings therefore attended English classes and interacted with international students.

No discrimination on campus

Is it true that Felda students are troublemakers? Ain said that it was a wrong perception. Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion.

“I am not worried or disheartened by this perception. I am proud of what I am. The Felda settler’s status does not discourage me from being equal to other students. I don’t believe in a pessimistic attitude. As a student, what is important is that you study hard and succeed,” she continued.

“On campus, my fellow students and I were not discriminated or treated differently. The atmosphere at Limkokwing University has helped my friends and me to learn in peace and comfort,” she said.

Although Ain has obtained a diploma and academic recognition, the radio and TV broadcasting graduate said she is still a humble person. Now she is setting her sights on acquiring a degree.

“The knowledge gained is insufficient. I hope to further my studies before getting a proper job. One has to plan properly in order to ensure a brighter future,” she said.
