German exhibition ends in trendy style

The month-long German exhibition on Limkokwing campus, Zeitgeist, ended in style today with a captivating fashion show staged by the university’s students.

An enthusiastic crowd of 300 attended the closing event. Among those present were Dr Harald Olk, head of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), Kuala Lumpur, and Mr Andreas Lang, the head of the culture department of the German Embassy in Malaysia. 

Under the theme, Global Destruction, the fashion show was the highlight of the evening. In the spotlight were fashion and lifestyle design students who unveiled 28 inspirational designed fit for global students. They were supported by students from the Limkokwing Sound & Music Design Academy, who provided music for the occasion.

At the closing ceremony, Mr Lang hailed the university’s approach to creativity and innovation in tertiary education.  “Limkokwing has got the right concepts of creativity and innovation in education and fellowship,” he said. “Such aspects are needed to advance in today’s very modern and global world and they are very relevant here and everywhere in the world, Germany included.”

Vital gateway to Europe

Mr Lang said the German Embassy would welcome other forms of cooperation with the university, including student and staff exchange programmes, academic research and internships.

He hinted that Germany would an ideal location for Limkokwing to set up a campus. “Germany will be another vital gateway for Limkokwing to showcase Limkokwing and Malaysian culture in Europe,” he said.

Zeitgeist conveyed the spirit of the times, changes in society, codes of morality and the feelings and longings of people. On display were 200 photographs.

The exhibition was a joint effort among the Goethe-Institute Kuala Lumpur, the German Embassy and Limkokwing. It was well-received by students, parents and the public.
