Good response to photography workshop at Limkokwing

Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology held a photography workshop organised by Faculty of Design Innovation at Jalan Nanas recently. The joint effort organised together with the photography club of SMK Batu Lintang saw an impressive turnout of more than 100 students and their teachers from eight top secondary schools.

The schools were represented by students from SMK Batu Lintang and SMK St Theresa, others included participants from SMK Greenroad, SMK St Mary, SMK Kuching High, Chung Hua Middle School No.1 and SMK DPAH Gapur, Stampin.

The innovated workshop was designed to aspire students who wish to explore their career options in the field of graphic design, mass communication, journalism or other photography related careers. 

Petrus Alfred Paul, a lecturer at Limkokwing said, “Besides becoming professional photographers or photo-journalists, those who excel in photography can take up programmes such as graphic designing, advertising, fashion, multimedia to excel in the creative field.”

President of SMK St Teresa Photography Club, Josephine Joeyna ak Joseph Jantan, commented that the workshop was fun and interesting and that the indoor and outdoor shooting sessions were the most interesting parts of the workshop.

“The explanation and photography tips given by photography lecturer Wraenddy on fashion photography were beneficial to her as well as other participants,” she said, adding that she loved the experience of using studio lightings for model shooting and concluded that the workshop also exposed them to the latest technological advancements in photography.

Kuok Khu Chern, president of the Photography Club from SMK Kuching High shared Josephine’s views and stated, “This was a new dimension to photography and hoped that more of such workshops would be organised periodically in the near future.”

Samantha Si of SMK St Mary commented on the friendliness and help of the facilitators from Limkokwing and workshop presentation. She further stated that she found the experience gained from the photo editing demonstration using Photoshop software very useful and important.

Vivianna Jee, treasurer of SMK Batu Lintang Photography Club and Michelle Ng, President of the Photography club of SMK Green Road as well as most of the participants echoed that the photo shooting session was the most interesting.

Felixon ak Jawing, the vice president of Bandar Kuching No.1’s photography Club restated that more workshops of this nature be organised to teach the participants more advanced skills and techniques in photography owing to required response to the fast pace of technological advancements in recent times.

Students attending the workshop were also given a tour of the campus where an array of creative work of Limkokwing’s students in the form of paintings, designing, arts and crafts as well as multimedia presentation was showcased.

In the closing speech, teacher in charge of photography Club of SMK Batu Lintang, Chai N.P., on behalf of the organising committee and the participants thanked the management and staff of Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology, for their valuable contribution to making the event a success.

He hoped the institute will continue to inspire students in the community, adding that “Given their commitment to creativity and continuous technological advancement they would continue to support the photography clubs in secondary schools in the city in order to promote photography as a creative art and upgrade the standard of photography amongst students.”

“Photography clubs of the various schools pull their resources together to organise such events to benefit from the opportunity presented by Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology,” he added.

He concluded by saying that there is no other university or college which offers professional photography and urged the students not to miss out on such opportunities that exposes them to career pathway creation and development.
