A “Heal the World” campaign which carries the message of peace, hope and reconciliation kicked off with a concert by students of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology at Cyberjaya.
The campaign focussed on the plight of the Palestinians. To add poignancy to the event, international student Sulaiman Saleh Alzamly, from the Gaza Strip in Palestine, spoke about the anguish and trauma those living there suffered as a result of the war in his homeland.
“We are still a wounded people, physically and mentally. We still live in fear. This charity concert to raise funds for Palestinians is greatly appreciated,” Sulaiman said.
The university provided the right launch pad for the campaign because of the presence of students from over 100 countries on its campus.
Over 4,000 international students from the Klang Valley, several of whom live in conflict zones in their home countries, felt there was an urgent need to heal the world, which is torn by war and impoverishment.
They said they were painfully aware of the millions of young people who had to deal with war daily, and had no chance to tell the adults to get their act together and start the healing process.
The students donated part of their pocket money to the campaign.
The total collection was RM10,132, which will be used to buy medicines for the people of Gaza.
A cheque for the sum was presented by Limkokwing vice-president Dr. Jayles Yeoh to the Palestinian Ambassador to Malaysia, Abdelaziz Abu Ghoush.
Original compositions, poems and cultural dances were performed by the university’s students and faculty members at the concert.
A music video composed by its Sound and Music Design Academy, featuring an international cast of singers, was launched during the event.
An ensemble comprising students from Iran, Siera Leonne, Indonesia, Lithuania and Brazil also took to the stage.
