Limkokwing University of Creative Technology founder Prof Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Lim Kok Wing was recently conferred the “Distinguished World Citizen of Peace and Humanity” award by the Palestine government.
Presented to Lim by Palestine ambassador Abdel Aziz Aboughosh at a ceremony at the Palestine embassy, the award was a tribute to his lifelong efforts in contributing towards world peace, particularly in support of the people of Palestine.
“I am humbled beyond words. Of all the awards I have received, this one is the most meaningful because it comes from Palestine, from a brave people who have spent the last 60 years in refugee camps in their own country, fighting to protect their sovereignty,” Lim said.
“The world wants to see an end to the suffering. Everyone wants to see an end to the bombing and the killing. God willing, we will, in our lifetime, that in my own lifetime, I will see peace over a united Palestine.”
Lim said he planned to establish a training centre for Palestinian youth in Ramallah or Jericho. To kickstart the programme, a group of 10 to 15 young Palestinians would come to Malaysia to receive training, mostly in the area of information technology and design.
Abdel Aziz stressed on the need for unity in Palestine, saying: “We the Palestinians, the Muslims and the Christians are one; so when I’m here and there is One Malaysia, I really am proud because this is also what we are intending to have in the future.”
A video presentation titled The Plight of the Palestinians: A People Denied A Homeland, produced by students of the university in 2003, was later shown to highlight important points of the Palestinian issue.
As a follow up to their earlier efforts, the students in April this year, also launched the “Heal the World” campaign which carries a message of peace and hope, to raise funds for the purchase of medical supplies.
