The pursuit of innovation has profoundly changed the nature of global competition.
Innovation gives an edge in business, and Malaysia should take a cue from countries such as Japan, Switzerland and Sweden to keep up with and effectively use ingenuity to drive the economy or it will fail to compete.
You can tap into the mind of Limkokwing university of Creative Technology president and founder Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing, who was named Father of Innovation in Creative Education by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation last September, and learn more about being a global player through technology superiority and technopreneurship by visiting blog.limkokwing.com.
This is the Year of Creativity and Innovation in Malaysia but Lim believes a change in mindset must first take place before the country can hope to make any significant progress in keeping with the theme.
“In Japan, the attitude is ‘innovate or die’ - the Japanese give that much emphasis to innovation.
“China sees innovation as the next step for further developing and advancing its economy, tergeting 2020 as the year it chives an innovation-oriented economy.
“Likewise, the United States is focusing again on innovation. It may be a world leader in technological achivement but it fears it may be lagging behind and is now focused on improving Mathematics and Science education.
“According to the latest Intel Global Innovation Survey, Americans believe innovation is even more important in the next three decades than it was in the last three.”
Lim hopes his blog would help open the eyes of more Malaysians to 21st century realities and challenges.
“There is no time for complacency. Malaysia is well-positioned to surge ahead, what with its ties to Organisation of the Islamic Conference, the Commonwealth and Asean, among others, but is the citizenry equipped with the tools and knowledge to help drive the country forward?”
Apart from business innovation, the blog also covers the milestones chalked up by Limkokwing over the last 40 years in areas such as nation-building, human development and philanthropy.
