The Limkokwing University of Creative Technology has come- up with another gem of a programme to give foundation students the exposure to the best of the East and West.

This exposure is expected to build their confidence, broadening their horizon, and bring a change in mindset as they would be exposed to a totally new culture and way of thinking.

Titled Business Innovation through IT advancement, foundation students who are doing their foundation in Business and Information Technology are given an opportunity to do one month of their studies at the Limkokwing London campus in Piccadilly.

Global Classroom

This is also part of the university’s Global Classroom initiative that is actualised by the university, in having the students gain experience for one month or a semester or a year in London.

The city which is one of the oldest in Europe is well known for being one of the best financial institutions in the world and also possessing one of the best IT architecture, and infrastructure facility.

Having done their initial studies at the university’s Cyberjaya campus, the students will gain the experience of studying in a different creative, innovative and inspiring environment that is in London.

And all this is for foundation students who are in the very first semester, studying at Limkokwing University.

From the experience, the students are expected to be exposed to another dimension in education where they would not only learn it from textbooks but are seeing and experiencing it for themselves in a lively Western environment.

World-wide Exposure

The programme will be a “door to the world” for them, as they would better understand the effects of globalisation towards the changing business nature and its effects on London and how they are responding towards this transformation.

The students who undergo the programme are also expected to learn an international business culture and would also be exposed to compare the east and western approach towards business innovation.

London Experience

For the first eight weeks of the semester, they would be studying in Cyberjaya but from the eighth and 11th week, they will shoot off to London to gain this worldwide exposure.

While in London, they are expected to attend their lectures in the morning, and in the afternoon, they will visit the various sites for their projects.

Two lecturers from the faculty will accompany the student in their London trip where besides giving lectures, they are expected to guide them on what they are expected to do with their project.

The project process involves them identifying the subject matter, observing the outcome and also writing and presenting a report.

They are expected to visit retail shops, shopping malls and hypermarkets, telecommunication companies and its facilities, internet service provider and coffee houses and café.

While looking at retail outlets, the students will be required to look at the company’s point of sale system, inventory system, the movement of inventory or detection system, the RFID tags that are an automatic identification method using radiowaves that can be detected from a reader several meters away, barcode systems and accounting packages.

For those involved in telecommunications, they are expected to observe the telecommunication technologies, business package and cost.

Students who are involved in studying internet service provider are expected to watch the use of broadband technologies, offers made in business packages, and its costs.

Those observing café/coffee shops will be required to see the use of Wi-fi technologies, and wardriving that is the act of searching for Wi-fi wireless networks by a person in a moving vehicle by using a Wi-fi equipped laptop or PDA.

Presenting what they gained

After having a close look into the various places, the students will be required to compile the data gain, produce the report and present it in their classes.

They can either do the presentation either in London or the Cyberjaya campus, where they can present the best ideas of the East and West, where it is expected to be an eye opening experience and at the same time creating a fusion of ideas.

The objective of this programme is to produce business and IT graduates who possess a global mindset and it is towards supporting the faculty’s mission to be one of the best Business and IT school through this innovative delivery.
