“We have heard a lot of good things about Limkokwing University and are here to discover how Youngsan University could learn about the culture of creativity and innovation that is in place at Limkokwing campuses worldwide.”
This is the message of Youngsan University president, Dr. Bu Gunwick who arrived at Limkokwing University with a delegation that also included the CEO of Sungsin School of Foundation, Mrs. Ro Chan Yong and the director of International Cooperation, Mr Kyungchan Lee on 10 August 2010.
Impressive, outstanding
Youngsan University is a private university in South Korea with a main campus in Yangsan and a branch campus in Busan. The university offers undergraduate degree programmes in international studies, law, Asian business, and information engineering as well as graduate degrees in legal affairs, hotel tourism management, information technology, real estate and English as a foreign language.
Throughout their campus walkabout, the Koreans were highly impressed with the international environment; some of them took the opportunity to stop and talk with foreign students intermingling with other students with ease and confidence.
New level of education
This is what makes Limkokwing different from other universities whether Malaysian or foreign.
Here students come from over 145 countries to experience a new system of learning and teaching that embodies the best of East and West, one structured to bring out the best in them. Here they learn to accept different cultures and share similarities to build goodwill so they become ambassadors of peace. Here they come face-to-face with indusity – industry and university – that provides them cutting-edge industry skills and knowledge to strengthen their confidence to take on 21st century challenges.
Promising collaboration
Youngsan University and Limkokwing University, two of Asia’s finest institutions of higher education, are in one mind to develop and enhance their expertise in creativity and innovation so both Korean and Malaysian students may benefit through student exchange, twinning and summer class and course modulation programmes.
The cooperation will also lead to the establishment of learning centres in each other’s universities on a long-term basis.
An optimistic Dr. Bu Gunwick said, “we can cooperate in film, imaging, advertising, publication and fashion”.
In the fashion
Fashion is one area that Limkokwing excels in.
Youngsan University is considering organizing a fashion extravaganza in Busan city and the prospects of Limkokwing participating in such a show an international fashion exhibition in Korea does sounds exciting.
It is a proposal that both universities should consider to forge a new and long-term academic relationship.
Encouraged by the success of the visit, the president of Youngsan University is keen to return for more detailed discussions with the president of Limkokwing University, Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Dr. Lim Kok Wing as the next step towards creative education.
