Limkokwing Borneo yesterday launched the ‘Belia Logo and Programme Survey’ a youth-oriented project initiated by the Ministry of Social Development and Urbanization at its Jalan Nanas campus here.

Assistant Minister of Youth Affairs and Youth Training, Larry Sng Wei Shien, who officiated at the function also launched the Anugerah Kuching Inovatif/Kreatif, also an initiative by Limkokwing Borneo to garner creative ideas brought forth by young Sarawakians.

Limkokwing Borneo has always played an active role in encouraging youths to develop and express their ideas as the institute holds that youths are the key to the future development of Sarawak.

Anugerah Kuching Inovatif/Kreatif is an open competition whereby participants can submit their works online to partake in two categories - Open and Students. The competition will run over a period of three months, after which the best three submissions in both categories will be presented to the Ministry of Social Development and Urbanization.

The participants stand a chance to win either the Gold, Silver or Bronze prizes as well as 10 consolation prizes in both categories.

All entry descriptions and further information will be made available on www.limkokwing.net starting March 8.

Meanwhile, the Youth Survey 2010 program is aimed at encouraging young people in the State to express their thoughts and ideas, as well as to allow the Ministry of Social Development and Urbanization to understand the needs and opinions of today’s youth.

It is a comprehensive survey conducted by the Ministry focusing on youth ranging from 15 to 40 years old. It is a pioneer effort to effectively identify the needs of youth and the interests, while compiling a social data to improve the development of youth programs.

This is in recognition of the potential of youth and the elaboration of possible ways to better engage young people to play more proactive roles in the future development of Sarawak, statement from the institution said.

Limkokwing students were involved in the design of the logo for this programme and is proud of hosting this event to show our support and commitment towards the success of this program. Limkokwing pledges its support towards all programs that relate to youth development because it is the driver of creative education in Sarawak.

Limkokwing Borneo holds that students need to be given the opportunity to make their thoughts and opinions known, and has always supported the students’ effort in bringing their views forward and has always encouraged students to express themselves, be it through their Art Works, their music or literature. Students are encouraged to actively participate in competitions, exhibitions and other platforms such as fashion shows and music festivals that will showcase their creativity.

It pointed out that the university has also been a firm supporter of government initiated projects, and has actively participated in programs such as the Rakan Muda, Malaysia’s campaign against smoking, the ‘Tak Nak’ campaign, and the 1998 Commonwealth Games.

Limkokwing has also engaged in strategic ventures with various ministries such as the recent partnership with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, whereby the Ministry recognized that the cooperation between Limkokwing and the government would allow youths to develop innovation and technology, which would then lead to the progression of Malaysia as an Innovation driven economy.

Limkokwing Borneo, as a digital innovation hub, has always prioritized creativity and innovation in design in the delivery of courses, and students are constantly pushed to reach new heights. Limkokwing Borneo is one of the 12 Limkokwing University campuses located in Asia, Europe and Africa, and offers Anglia Ruskin’s 3+0 degrees and diploma courses in Design, Architecture, Communications, Business and Information Technology.

Also present at the launch were Professor Datin Hanifah Hajar Taib-Alsree from Limkokwing Institute of Creative Technology, and Principal Assistant Secretary to the Ministry of Social Development and Urbanization, Hamdan Sharbini.
