The Student Representative Council (SRC) from Limkokwing Botswana were one step closer to attaining global leadership qualities as they underwent a ten day leadership training program organised by the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology.

The team arrived with high spirits and it was easy to see from day one that they were looking forward to strengthening their leadership traits in pursuit of progress and also so they can represent their fellow students back home and lead them to an empowered future.

The leadership training actively involved participants through presentations as well as workshop sessions where they formed groups and undertook challenging tasks on leadership, group work, effective communications as well as decision-making.

“This was a group filled with many leadership qualities so working with them was a pleasant experience. They came with good intentions which was bringing back what they have learnt from Malaysia and instilling it in their fellow students,” said Dr Abdul Rahman, Senior Faculty Manager of Business Management.

Instructors from the industry such as from Petronas commended the participants for their dedication and willingness to learn more and functioning well as a team.
The teamwork, creative thinking ability and innovative traits were most apparent in one of the activities, where the participants were asked to build shelter with just newspapers, and had to complete the task without verbal communication.

The instructors also organized team-building seminars where the team was given interactive case analysis on management and leadership. During this time the participants would provide positive input and you could see that they were very open minded and aware of what is going on around them.

The trip gave the students an opportunity to explore the country and learn more about the Malaysian way of life. They had a chance to visit the historical city of Malacca, the thrilling atmosphere of Genting Highlands and also went on a tour of Kuala Lumpur and its tourist attractions.

While in Malacca the team was impressed by how rich the Malaysian culture is and some felt as though they were in a different world. They had the chance to be accompanied by some of the students and Marketing staff and so they could mingle more in the process.

“The trip was most enjoyable and one couldn’t help but be immersed into the history, I particularly enjoyed visiting the historic ship and the church,” said Sadie Mosiakgabo, a student at the university.

She mentioned that the team were explorers and were not lazy to check out most of the sights especially since it was quite an exhausting experience.

The team left for Botswana pleased with what they have learnt and the university hopes that they take the knowledge and implement it in the Limkokwing Botswana campus.
