
GABORONE (BOTSWANA) – Limkokwing University (LUCT) appears as the industry driver in the preparatory programme in quality education in the African continent through its campus here that has more than 6,000 students.
LUCT President, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing, says the campus that has been operational since last year has many programmes that are based on creative information technology and innovation as well as management.
He says the campus indirectly helps the local government in generating competitive human capital.
He says the existence of the local campus give a chance to school leavers to enjoy education and learning facilities that are modern and high quality.
“Students come from South Africa, Kenya, Zimbabwe, Lesotho, Malawi, Tanzania and Ethiopia while there is students from Pakistan as well who are studying at the diploma and degree levels.
“Among the selected programmes are creative multimedia, architecture, ecology, design innovation, media and broadcasting, business management and globalisation as well as information and communication technology (ICT).
“As a progressive country in the African continent, Botswana needs many professionals in various areas to help build and manage the country effectively,” he says at the campus’s first graduation ceremony here yesterday.
At the ceremony as well, LUCT presented to the President of Botswana, Festus G Mogae, an Honorary Doctorate in Humanities.
At the meantime, Mogae says the university’s operations in the country has given his government a chance to produce more excellent human capital to build the country in producing a creative economy to achieve Vision 2016.
