The Limkokwing University of Creative Technology was the proud recipient of two awards from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry on May 27. The Export Excellent (Services) and Branding Excellence Award showed the highest recognition and faith of the Malaysian Government in Limkokwing in bringing Malaysian education abroad.
With campuses across Asia, Africa and Europe, Limkokwing continues to bring the best of Eastern and Western education to students.
Limkokwing proved to be popular when it recorded over 45 million visits to its website annually from 188 countries.
Founder-president Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing believes the institution has successfully created interest in Malaysian education.
“The university has attracted student from more than 130 countries and this is a manifestation of their confidence in Malaysian education and also in the university,” he says.
“We invest in a strategy that will strengthen Malaysia’s edge by building its global reputation for quality in education. The university believes the world belongs to the next generation. The skills and knowledge they gain here must prepare for the global community,” says Lim.
“The students who walk out from here gain more than just a paper qualification. They will experience characters building and develop their talent, as we prepare the environment that strives for creativity and innovation.”
The two awards given by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry meant a lot to Limkokwing, as they were the highest recognition an education institution could get from the Malaysian Government. Certainly, the awards were not the first, as Limkokwing also won the Export Excellent Award in 2002. Lim says it is certainly meaningful to win the awards for the second time and getting an additional Branding Excellent awards is a bonus.
“This shows that Limkokwing continues to strive for bringing our unique from of education not only to Malaysians but also to foreign students. It is also a recognition of the quality of the Malaysian form of education we export abroad.” he says.
He says that Limkokwing UK was given coverage by the Time Education Guide. The Guardian and the Independent newspapers. The Time Education Guide reported that Limkokwing’s arrival in the UK was a wake-up call for British universities to reach out and think global.
The Guardian said that Limkokwing’s presence was prompting British universities to reinvent themselves in the face of global competition while the Independent’s headline read, From Malaysia to Mayfair. This was a proud moment for the country.
Lim says that while Limkokwing UK’s presence is less than a year, it is doing what no other British and non-British private colleges are doing there. “We are the first Asian and Commonwealth university to have tapped such a niche market,” he says.
