Being a well known and established university at the local and international level and flying the Jalur Gemilang up high is something that made the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology proud. Hence, winning two recent awards from the Ministry of International Trade and Industry last 27th May, made it much sweeter for the university.

The two awards, The Export Excellence (Services) and Branding Excellence Award was the highest recognition from the Malaysian Government to the Limkokwing University for being successful in bringing the country’s name abroad.

With total campuses in Asia, Africa and Europe, the Limkokwing University continues on with its commitment to bring the best of East and West in education.

Now the Limkokwing University students come from over 130 countries from all around the world, and it had proven itself to be on the “hit” list when it recorded access of 45 million hits in its website every year from students in 188 countries.

Limkokwing University founder president Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing said the university is creating a lot of interests and is popular in Malaysia.

“This is testimony from the hits recorded in the university’s websites which is accessed from 188 out of a possible 194 countries in the world last year.

“The Limkokwing University has managed to attract interests in students from more than 130 countries and this showed their confidence that they have in the Malaysian education and this university,” he said.

More than a paper qualification

Students and graduates from this university can expect more then just paper qualification when studying at the university.

“We invest in a strategy to strengthen the quality of Malaysian education at the global level.

The university believes that the world belongs to the next generation. The skills and knowledge that they gained would help them become better leaders and responsible members of the global community,” he said.

Tan Sri Lim said the education given is towards producing quality graduates. Hence, they are also taught of lessons that built their character and talent as the university has prepared the right environment that would stimulate on the creativity and innovativeness of its students.

Going to Europe

The two MITI awards meant a lot to the Limkokwing University as it is the highest recognition from the Malaysian Government on an education institution.

However, this award was not the first won as the Limkokwing University also obtained the Export Excellence Award in 2002.

Lim said winning the two awards was meaningful and getting the Export Excellence Awards for the second time was truly a bonus.

“This showed that the Limkokwing University continues to bring its unique form of education to Malaysians and also international students.

It is also a certification in the quality education that the university has provided in bringing the Malaysian education abroad,” he said.

Lim said Limkokwing UK received coverage from the print media like Time Education Guide, The Guardian and The Independent newspaper.

Time Education Guide reported that Limkokwing’s presence had provided a wake-up call to British institutions to be swift and to think globally. The Guardian highlighted how Limkokwing forced other British institutions to reinvent themselves to face the global challenges. Meanwhile, the Independent article titled “From Malaysia to Mayfair” reflected on the proud moment for the country.

Lim said although Limkokwing UK had yet to enter its first full year, its status was similar to other private colleges there.

“We are the first Asian, and first from Commonwealth country to penetrate in the United Kingdom market,” he said.

UK recognition

Limkokwing UK received accreditation from the Accreditation Service for International Colleges in April 2008, where it awarded the university a premier status.

The accreditation process included interviews with staff and students, comprising those from 30 countries. They expressed their satisfaction and being proud for having chosen Limkokwing UK.

“Its not a joke, that London students wanting to get a degree from a Malaysian university and this showed the excellence achieved in recognition of the Malaysian education,” he said.

An ASIC accreditation, assures international students, parents and education representatives that the programmes delivered, as well as the premises of the institution, conform to the standards and quality required by British law.
