The UNIty 09 event organized by Limkokwing University’s London campus ended recently, graced by the presence of select guests from the creative and cultural industries to celebrate the achievements of Limkokwing students.
Well-known mobile artist Camille Baker was among the guests who were on hand to witness the photography and multimedia exhibition, the screening of student film Dark Beauty, as well as the presentation of the interfaculty Universal Project which involved outstanding mobile applications created by Limkokwing students.
The Universal Project required international students from various faculties to allocate a whole semester to developing new ideas for mobile applications. These student groups were structured as start-up companies and worked on live-industry briefs.
A total of four teams presented their business plans for new mobile applications to fellow students and industry guests. Select faculty members and Baker were appointed judges for the day with ‘Discovery’, a GPS and locative media application intended for educational use, selected as the winning entry.
The winning team was treated by BPR London to a night out at one of London’s most exclusive clubs, the Vendome located in the Mayfair district of London.
Max Schleser, a lecturer at Limkokwing’s London campus who organized the event, said: “The event was a great success. The students worked very hard to present all their outstanding work on time. Like in an industry environment we were working on a tight deadline. A great team effort made it possible to achieve this work.”
The evening concluded with a reception and live music performance to celebrate the end of term for the students.
