The evening certainly belonged to the Limkokwing models as they weaved
their magic on the catwalk stunning the crowd with their show-stopping out-
of-this-world fashions that could only emerge from the creative minefields of
Limkokwing University of Creative Technology, a university that is already setting
innovative trends in creative education all over world.
Creativity in motion
‘Creativity in Motion’ is a semester event that students of the university embark
on with earnest and this year’s homage to the world of fashion was a scene-
stealer from the very beginning.
Even the tagline - sexy, strong and black – sent shock waves of excitement
rippling through the highly charged crowd that showed up long before the
fashion show started at 6.30 pm with a bang.
Stylish struts and all
And when it started, it was non-stop action all the way through the hot August
evening at One Jaya, Petaling Jaya last week.
And what a starter it was!
One by one, the gorgeous-looking girls in hour-glass figures strut out their stuff
showcasing fashion designs that had a story to tell.
One came out marching in army gear fashionably tailored to resemble a Malaysia
in the 40s.
Dynasty of 2010
Sandra Masi Chioma drew ear-piecing shouts when she teased the audience with
her wine-glass inspiration of the Ming Dynasty era, a black outfit hung around
her neck as she sashayed the runway with a pouting attitude.
Wearing a stunning Mogul design, model Hunaina showed she had it in her to be
famous someday, while Vallensia who comes from Russia stole the hearts of all
with a creation that reflected the cultural aspects of her country.
Aggressive, bold, challenging
Then came the moment for the Hair Design students to show off their talents
and they wasted no time in turning the show upside down with their outrageous
Glam Rock styling.
Perhaps nothing was more eye-catching than the Mohawk do that really captured
the imagination of the spectators and why not?
After all how often does one see a hairdo all lit up with tiny blue lights flickering
away, and if that didn’t make heads turn, then, perhaps the micro-short sexy
black outfit hugging her lithe frame certainly did!
About eight brilliantly unique hair designs were paraded that evening by students
from the Limkokwing Academy for Hair Design.
Associate Head of the International Lifestyle Academy, Airene Wong was upbeat
about her students’ professionalism that brought out the best in each one of
them.
“We are very proud of the students and what they have accomplished
here. They came up with the Glam Rock concept and their outrageous
designs illustrate the hard work they put into their runway show.”
Celebrating creativity
‘Creativity in Motion’ is one of many events that Limkokwing holds regularly to
enable students to experience the real thing through industry hands-on learning,
which is an integral part of its creative teaching methodology.
Here students are encouraged to come up with their own ideas, nourish it and
carry it through. The approach enables them to stimulate their thinking and
problem-solving skills and develop sure-fire confidence to take on the world
outside the campus.
Limkokwing is all about ideas. Limkokwing is all about creativity. Limkokwing is
all about transformation.
You can easily spot a Limkokwing student or graduate from their talents, their
skills and their confidence and, as one visiting American academic put it rather
eloquently, “Limkokwing is classy, elegant and cutting-edge”.
And if you were at the fashion show on that unforgettable evening at One Jaya
on 4 August, you too will know instinctively that the words carry a whole load
of truth - Limkokwing University is unlike any other university in Malaysia or the
world, for that matter.
