
The president of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) Tan Sri Dato’ Lim Kok Wing has made a special scholarship offer to all President’s Award for Excellence recipients to the tune of P1 million.
This scholarship offer will enable the 21 young Batswana students to continue their studies at the Limkokwing University in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The President’s Award for Excellence is presented to students for their outstanding academic abilities as well as for displaying professional understanding of their subjects that they demonstrated through their semester submissions.
Meanwhile, 959 students on March 27 graduated from the university with bachelors and associate degrees, the first batch of graduants from the university since its official opening three years ago.
The graduation ceremony was graced by former president, Dr Festus Mogae.
In his keynote address, Dr Mogae said the growth of the university in the past three years has opened opportunities for thousands of young people leaving secondary schools every year.
“The university has absorbed many of these young people and equipped them with necessary skills and knowledge for them to contribute to national development and also survive as individuals in this competitive world,” he said. He referred to the graduation as the fruits of a deliberate Government policy of encouraging private sector involvement in providing tertiary education.
The graduation was attended by among others, the founder president of the institution, Professor Lim Kok Wing, the Malaysian High Commissioner Mr Kennedy Jawan. Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Education and Skills Development Mr Baeti Molake, Tertiary Education Council Executive Secretary Dr Patrick Molutsi, Member of Parliament (MP) for Gaborone West North Robert Masitara, and diplomats.
