The content industry has great potential for growth and job creation, Minister of Science, Technology and Innovations Datuk Dr Jamaluddin Jarjis said recently.
Officiating the country’s first-ever E-games Asia 2005 at the Limkokwing University College of Creative Technology, Datuk Jamaluddin voiced support for efforts to promote the industry.
“What we would like to do is create value to the existing infrastructure. We would like to develop the ICT industry, to develop our local entrepreneurs,” said the minister, adding that such roles as animator, programmer, producer, designer, and scriptwriter are crucial.
The E-games were presented by Malaysian Gamers Online, in association with Limkokwing and endorsed by the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDC).
Limkokwing has always been focused on creativity and innovation. The creation of a Malaysian e-sports hub, says Limkokwing president, Tan Sri Lim Kok Wing, will pave the way for the country to become a leading electronic games hub in Southeast Asia.
He said: “We will bring together the best creative minds and allow the young the opportunity to show their potential in this area that has great promise of growth.”
E-games is a US$30-billion industry with the industry in Malaysia poised to grow between 10% and 20% annually.
The 6 Nations Championship featured nearly 130 players from Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei, Singapore, the Philippines and Malaysia.
Piala E-sukan offered local talents the chance to compete for the Malaysia E-games Champion title.
