Limkokwing puts a smile on children’s faces

Appropriately entitled “Put a Smile on Their Faces This Christmas” the Limkokwing Corporate Social Investment Project did just that last Friday after handing over a donation to Bakgatla Special Education Unit in Moshupa.

It was all smiles as Bakgatla Special Education Unit received a shot in the arm when the Limkokwing Corporate Social Investment Project donated food hampers and other social amenities such as toiletries, among others, for children as well as their parents or guardians, amid a glowing sense of appreciation from the faces of recipients. The Limkokwing Corporate Social Investment Project is the agenda to give back to society and a deliberate initiative to acknowledge the importance of empowering young minds. It is a concerted stride to build a better Botswana in the wake of societal challenges as well as a coordinated attempt to mobilize Limkokwing staff and students to voluntarily work in league towards contributing towards strides to improve the welfare of society.

Bakgatla school head, Mr. Kalaetsile underscored the significance of the donation, contending that it was in line with national aspirations and should be strongly commended as it should be. He welcomed all invited guests and other stakeholders who graced the donation ceremony and urged others to emulate the initiative of Limkokwing University of Creative Technology to uplift the welfare of society.

Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Public Relations Manager, Ms. Mercy Bonnie Thebe informed her audience that the project was very dear and close to the Limkokwing University of Creative Technology Founder President Emeritus Tan Sri Dato Dr. Limkokwing’s heart.

Ms. Thebe announced: “Limkokwing Corporate Social Investment Department has discovered that community development helps people achieve their potential by improving their daily lives and expanding their sense of efficacy. We believe that the provision of basic amenities will not only help our children in society but it is an opportunity to invest in human capital”. She observed that official information indicates that children are the most pivotal pillar in society because of the joys and differences they bring into our lives as a society, adding that societies would be more competent and effective when more investment was directed towards developing abilities of children.

She indicated: “This project has not just changed our Corporate Social Responsibility but has motivated and changed our perception towards the education, social lives and future of children in Botswana. It has made us recognize the power of the mind and the abilities of children. With these Christmas hamper donations, we have not touched their lives but we have contributed to our own inner persons. “This Project is a results of what Botswana is capable of, it is an indication that our government has planted seeds in all of us so we can continue to change our own children’s lives”.

She said that donations of such nature always have the potential to inspire children to excel at school and also helps them appreciate the importance of education. She indicate that modern customs of the upcoming Christmas holiday is to, among others, give gifts, attend church celebrations, adding: “Christmas holidays are upon us and one common theme that prevails is the spirit if giving and receiving and by so doing putting a smile on someone’s face and brightening up their lives. We choose Bakgatla special Education Unit as one of the beneficiaries of this year’s Christmas project amongst two others in Gaborane this year”.

She went on to inform the guests: “Limkokwing University of Creative Technology sort after changing lives and stirring towards real growth for the nation of Botswana, and in this aspect we see children as the pillars of today’s developments. ‘Put a Smile on Their faces This Christmas’ will not only inspire these children but it will also motivate the society to give back the children with special needs as they too deserve to be embraced and loved”.

The Limkokwing PR Manager further explains that the project is a foundation that Limkokwing University would like to set for communities to realize the importance of giving back to the society and building creative minds and also contribute towards encouraging bright, innovative children of Botswana.

The event to mark the rather generous donation strongly symbolized that the Spirit of Giving   in the form of Christmas gifts has indeed come early for the children at Bakgatla Special Education Unit who continued to beam with smiling faces as they received the food hampers, among other essential items.

The donation activity had its own resounding trappings of befitting entertainment bliss with surprise social role models jointly performing.

As Bakgatla Special Education Unit Vibrated with marked excitement, parents continued to express profound gratitude at the generous gesture to bring smiles on faces of scores of children.
